Due to an unfortunate and unexpected shoulder injury, Artistic Director Silvio Apponyi will not be one of the sculptors creating a sculpture at the 2014 Adelaide Hills International Sculpture Symposium.

Silvio said today, “I am disappointed as sculpting is my real passion, but I am presently unable to swing a hammer and do the incredibly heavy work required for a large stone piece.  It would be foolish to do irreparable damage to my shoulder”, he said

“However, I will be well able to fulfil my role as Artistic Director and look after the visiting sculptors” he said.

AHISS has been fortunate to engage a very skilled sculptor from Turkey to fill Silvio’s place.

Canan Sönmezdağ  Zöngür from Turkey  is delighted to have the opportunity to participate and accepted the offer with enthusiasm.  She is Assistant Professor in Ordu University Fine Art Faculty Sculpture Department in Turkey and worked with Silvio at the Symposium in Cerisy le Foret, France in 2013.

Silvio says, “Canan is an extremely good sculptor and a charming person  who will fit in well with the team of sculptors attending the Symposium”.
